More than twenty years ago, I found a colorful vintage map of an island called Madeira at a Friends of the Library book sale in Charleston, SC. Standing there with my then-new boyfriend, I declared that one day we'd honeymoon there. We never did (though we did stay together for 17 years), and that map followed me through more than a dozen homes and somehow the dream of visiting Madeira never faded. This year, on mine and Abby's ten-year workiversary (so much better than a romantic anniversary, BTW), we finally made the trip, and it was even more magical than I imagined.

And the most amazing souvenir ever?? We transformed that beloved map into a textile print we love almost as much as the island itself. Made from lightweight cotton and generously oversized, this scarf can be worn a thousand ways: as a shawl, sarong, top, head wrap, baby shade, or whatever else your adventure requires. Part souvenir, part love letter, part very useful piece of fabric.
